Buena Vista River Park

The river park in Buena Vista has become one of the premier whitewater play parks in the Rocky Mountains. Funded by the town of BV and a Great Outdoors Colorado grant, the whitewater park is much more than a world class river surfing and play park. The construction of riverside trails allows boaters and spectators easy access and provides excellent vistas for watching the action.

In 2009 the whitewater park was expanded to include three man-made boulders (which are often mistaken for real rocks) and a kids’ rock and ropes course that provide a playground for climbers of all ages. The six river features are spread out along a one mile Class II stretch of the Arkansas River and were designed to provide a whitewater playground for all ability levels.  It’s not uncommon to find a beginner kayaker or stand up paddler in the eddy next to a professional athlete. Kayakers, stand up paddlers, canoeists, rafters, and spectators enjoy the convenience of easy access to world class whitewater in a picturesque setting.

The park is located on the east side of town of Buena Vista.  From Highway 24 turn east onto E Main St follow to the park which is at the end of the road. There is great parking, changing rooms, boat ramps, trails and access all up and down the west side of the river.
