The annual Collegiate Peaks Stampede Rodeo happens at the Chaffee County Rodeo Grounds in Buena Vista . (West at the traffic light in town at Highway 24 and Main Street; Turn left on County Road 321.)  The rodeo normally takes place the 2nd weekend in July, a tradition that was started around a hundred years ago when the event was part of the Head Lettuce Day celebrations.  Head Lettuce Day is now a bit of the interesting history of Buena Vista but the rodeo tradition continues.
